TEAMING:

Communication is a major plus on our PBS team. Each member makes themselves available to other members of the school to answer questions or to assist in any way that we can. The team is representative of most grade levels, special area teachers, ESE. Administration is consistently present at all PBS meetings and takes a leadership role in the proceedings. They are open to all suggestions.

The data is presented at each PBS meeting and it is discussed among the members of the team. It is also shared with faculty or staff members as needed. Data reviewed by team members is shared with the staff through e-mail or at team meetings at least monthly.

Strengths consist of consistency in meeting times as all meetings are added to the school calendar at the beginning of each year and we stick to that schedule. Each team member is responsible for reporting data to a particular grade level, and keeping the staff informed of decisions that are made.

IMPLEMENTATION:

1. Trafalgar Elementary holds a Star Student Breakfast weekly. A student from each class is nominated to attend. Parents of the child are invited and a breakfast is held Friday morning acknowledging the students hard work or effort. The student is given a charm for their necklace, a Star Pencil, and a certificate. 2. Weekly Peer Award drawings are held. Students are nominated for doing the right thing at school. If their name is drawn, they receive a ticket to purchase school supplies in the school store. 3. Staff members are recognized weekly by their peers for things they do for others or the school (YES Award). Their name goes into a drawing to be held each Friday to receive a treat. Each staff member nominated receives a certificate. 4. Data is reviewed at each meeting to assess where the problem areas are occurring. The data is then used to facilitate changes to correct the problem areas. 5. Spirit shirts were made for students to wear on Friday’s that have the expectations listed on the back so that students will constantly see them when walking in a line.

OUTCOMES:
Since the implementation of the PBS program discipline problems are occurring less frequently. Students are aware of the expectations and teachers are giving the students the tools that they need to find alternatives to the negative behaviors. Videos have been produced to show during the morning announcements concerning the schools expectations.

OBSTACLES:
The largest obstacle continues to be having 100% participation in all areas of PBS by staff. However, the team continues to meet come up with new methods of training both the current staff and the incoming staff on the PBS procedures. The PBS team members make themselves available as a team or individuals to assist any staff members with suggestions or strategies to deal with concerns.
