The Osceola PBS team works extremely well together and has broad representation. An administrator shares the coaching duties with an instructional staff member and attends the monthly meetings. Members of the team include instructional staff, support staff, ESE staff, administration, and guidance. The PBS team is FANTASTIC. They work together collaboratively, feel free to exchange ideas, and always seek to do what is best for children. They are completely committed to PBS and recognize the tremendous benefits for our staff and students.
Data is shared and analyzed monthly at PBS committee meetings, Leadership meetings, and Team Leader meetings. Team leaders share the information with their respective teams. This allows for effective communication particularly when a monthly staff meeting is not held. Data was used to change bus dismissal resulting in a dramatic reduction in afternoon bus referrals. Data was the impetus behind changes in cafeteria procedures and is certainly one reason that we are planning to implement a new program next year, Peaceful Playgrounds. We also utilize data to help meet individual needs of students and staff. SWIS is an excellent tool, and one we use frequently in the decision making processes of the school.
Information is shared in a variety of formats and quite often. As alluded to in the previous question, data is shared at least monthly with a variety of committees and of course that leads to dialogue regarding a variety of PBS information. PBS has been highlighted in our monthly newsletter that goes home to all of our families. This year, we developed a tri-fold brochure that highlights PBS at our school and includes expectations. This went home to families at Osceola Open House, and also goes home with families that register throughout the year. Various types of PBS Information is also shared frequently on the school morning news. We recognize the importance of sharing PBS with the school community and make concerted efforts to do so.
The coach and team leader, Carrie Fitzgerald and Jeff Rexford, are excellent. They are organized, always willing to go above and beyond, and have a passion for PBS. These traits are also evident in the rest of the team. Certainly, another strength is team chemistry. Team members collaborate, share, take active roles, and always seek to find ways to positively impact student behavior. |
The team does an excellent job of using data in decision making. Student rewards are very effective and this is primarily because the team seeks input from a variety of stakeholders. The team also has high expectations and is results oriented. If something has been implemented but doesn’t appear effective, it is carefully scrutinized and re-worked with stakeholder input. As previously alluded to, this team excels in…. TEAMWORK.

| The climate and morale at Osceola has been and continues to be very high. This is due to a variety of factors, however, PBS absolutely contributes to this. Teachers can teach, administration has more time to serve staff and students in capacities other than discipline, and students who may have challenges as well as those who do not, are able to experience more success. Data has become an integral part of decision making. |
| One of the obstacles has been the implementation of formal lessons. We have an excellent staff who frequently shares expectations with our students. However, finding time to implement formal lessons has been a challenge. This year, our health and integrated arts teacher has taken on this task as she sees most students in the school weekly. This has improved our ability to ensure that formal lessons are taught and that we are reaching all students. Communication to entire staff has been challenging because we have very few total staff meetings. We have overcome that hurdle by disseminating information to our Team Leaders who then take this information back to their teams. Another barrier we are working on is more effective use of PBS in our after school program. They are now using a reward system, infraction forms, and we recently had a staff meeting of after school employees to help broaden their knowledge of PBS. This however, needs to be done on a more frequent basis as employees are from other schools and may not be familiar with PBS. |
