TEAMING:

~We have a dedicated Core Team that has had administrative support from the outset. Although we have new administration, they have been active participants in Team meetings and decision making. We have a history of success which carries over to the new staff and team members.

We review data at each meeting to see trends and identify the specific types of referrals that we are experiencing. We have identified times where rates are highest and try to provide more supervision and or training for these times. We identify specific students who may need more intensive interventions. We also look at the types of referrals of highest frequency to guide inservice training for staff.

Information is shared on an immediate basis via email. However, we also produce a monthly newsletter distributed to all staff (see attachment). We have a committed team with good representation from different staff groups. Our Core Team Leader has been a consistent source of motivation for team and a very hard worker that drives PBS process. We meet regularly once or twice a month, and have been offering behavioral training workshops after school for two years.

IMPLEMENTATION:

~We excel in making PBS an integral part of the school climate. Daily announcements in the A.M of PBS Expectations and activities, Posters throughout the Campus and in classrooms reminding staff and students of Expectations/Rules. We have been very effective in fund raising projects that allow us to provide valued reinforcers. We find new ways to reinforce students with innovative monthly activities. The PBS Newsletter keeps staff informed regarding how the PBS process is working throughout the building.

OUTCOMES:

~We do see an improved school climate; “less yelling” and more attention to the positive. We have also seen significant reductions in student referrals since 2003-2004. For the 03-04 school year we averaged 2.29 referrals per day. For 04-05 we averaged 1.46 per day. For the current 05-06 school year we are averaging 1.57 referrals per day. To date, compared to last year we have increased students with 0-1 referrals from 94% to 96.6%. Students with 2-5 referrals has dropped from 5% to 3%, and students with greater than 5 referrals has dropped from 1 % to .4%. There are also many more visible signs of PBS on bulletin boards that highlight classroom activities reinforcing PBS concepts.

  OBSTACLES:

~Our County has initiated a new data system which made immediate access to data at the beginning of the school year impossible. At the present time the data system is up and running making data access available through the District web site to authorized uses. We did have some changes to our Core team, which did cause some minor disruptions, but “veterans” of the Team have been in place, new administration has also been actively involved.
