TEAMING:

~We have had committed members with staff well represented. Although there have been several administrative changes since the process began, all administrators have been very supportive and active members of the committee.

Our team has always used data at every meeting to determine the current “hot” spots and find innovative ways to reduce problems in those areas. We have formed subcommittees of other staff members to generate ideas. After each team meeting, e-mails, and meeting minutes go to all staff members to keep them informed. A major strength of our school has been the seamless transition of new members to the team. Their enthusiasm has provided motivation, impetus to continue growing, and modifying the program.

IMPLEMENTATION:

~Daily we review our school wide expectations during announcements; we also have them posted strategically throughout the campus. We have modified our reinforcement system as situations at the school have changed, but continue to reward the students on a daily basis. Monthly we teach School-wide social skills and an additional social skill chosen by each grade level to meet the students’ needs. Staff members receive rewards and recognition for demonstrating positive behaviors and fostering Positive Behavior Support with the students.

OUTCOMES:

~The office referrals rate has decreased; the biggest change has been in the improved school climate. It has taken several years but the paradigm shift has almost occurred with people emphasizing the positive rather than the negative. New teachers seem especially pleased with the established positive behavior support process and have stated “it works!”
