TEAMING:

~The team leader provides a complete agenda, and keeps the members on task. We have two assistant principals on the team, who both attend regularly and provide support and suggestions. There is good communication among team members and with the school principal. The team consists of broad representation from the faculty.

The data specialist presents SWIS reports at the PBS team meetings. Team members discuss ways to address issues which emerge from review of the data. SWIS reports are presented at team leader meetings, so that information can be shared with the faculty on each team.

PBS information is presented at team leader meetings which are held twice weekly. The Homestead Middle School P.B.S Journal is distributed to students and parents at Open House. Two – three additional issues are distributed during the course of the school year.

PBS team members demonstrate strong commitment and enthusiasm toward the PBS process. There is a broad representation including administration, special education, gifted, general education, workforce development and student services. Discussion adheres to the agenda with active participation of all members.

IMPLEMENTATION:

~Students were involved in designing and producing the posters for expectations and rules. These posters are visible in the classrooms and the common areas. The PBS team seeks ways to enhance faculty buy-in and student awareness and participation. Administrative support has been very evident. SWIS data is shared among the teams regularly to assist in developing strategies for individual students. Project Reconnect targeted sixth grade students with two or more referrals.

OUTCOMES:

~The orderly assembly of students before school has been accomplished through the establishment of zones; a plan recommended by the PBS team after the initial PBS team training during Summer 2005. The climate of the school has steadily improved. Administrators are visible and accessible. Positive interactions between staff and students are readily observed in common areas.

  OBSTACLES:

~Homestead Middle has a new principal this year. The PBS District Coordinator and PBS Coach met with the principal at the beginning of the year and gained support for continuation of the PBS process. The PBS team leader transferred to another school, and a new team leader has been identified. Obtaining incentives and rewards has taken longer than anticipated. A plan has been made for students to cash in Gator dollars from last school year.
