TEAMING:

~In the Trafalgar PBS team, there is constant communication. Communication occurs between team members and other members of the staff. PBS team members make themselves available to assist other staff members with any difficulties that they encounter and how it relates to our expectations for the school. The team is representative of most grade levels, special area teachers, ESE.

There is constant review of data with the PBS team. The data is used to look for areas of need, interpreted, and changes made where necessary. Data reviewed by team members is shared with the staff through e-mail or at team meetings.

Strengths consist of consistency in meeting times, each team member being responsible for reporting data to a particular grade level, and keeping the staff informed of decisions that are made.

IMPLEMENTATION:

~Trafalgar Elementary holds a Star Student Breakfast weekly. A student from each class is nominated to attend. Parents of the child are invited and a breakfast is held Friday morning acknowledging the students hard work or effort. The student is given a charm for their necklace, a Star Pencil, and a certificate. 2. Daily Peer Award drawings are held. Students are nominated for doing the right thing at school. If their name is drawn, they receive a ticket to purchase school supplies in the school store. 3. Staff members are recognized weekly by their peers for things they do for others or the school. Their name goes into a drawing to be held each Friday to receive a treat. Each staff member nominated receives a certificate. 4. Data is reviewed at each meeting to assess where the problem areas are occurring. The data is then used to facilitate changes to correct the problem areas.

OUTCOMES:

~Since the implementation of the PBS program discipline problems are occurring less frequently. Students are aware of the expectations and teachers are giving the students the tools that they need to find alternatives to the negative behaviors.

  OBSTACLES:

~One of the largest obstacles was a large growth size of both personnel and students at the beginning of the year. However, the team met over the summer and devised methods of training both the current staff and the incoming staff on the PBS procedures. The PBS team members make themselves available as a team or individuals to assist any staff members with suggestions or strategies to deal with concerns.
