TEAMING:

~The team works well due to all of the efforts of the Team Leader at the school before me. She went through several years of challenges to get-buy in and support. The foundation she provided the school (i.e. behavior principles, understanding consequences, and data analysis) has made my transition to the school much smoother. Administrators (the school has a total of 5; 1 Principal and 4 A.P.’s) 3 of the A.P.’s are on the team and one shows up to meetings on a regular basis. The A.P. is very active, keeps us on target throughout the year (i.e. reminders of upcoming activities) and assists with delegating jobs.

We focus on SPECIFIC problem behaviors and have large group rewards (i.e. dances, rallies, parties) contingent on the absence of the targeted behavior. We also have focused on increased supervision in problematic locations. Currently via staff meetings (monthly). Working on sharing data and information on staff website.

Diverse representation (i.e. all grade levels, both gen. ed. And E.S.E.; male and female). The Core team consistently meets monthly. Everyone brings ideas to the table. We are great listeners. All are willing to take on some form of task. The team regularly models PBS during the school day, and they help coach other staff members.

IMPLEMENTATION:

~The team created formal lesson plans to teach expectations to students. The team earnestly wants to assist in changing behavior for the better. We have several ways of reinforcing both students and staff (i.e. drawings, dances, parties).

OUTCOMES:

~This year we have a new coach and new team leader (both have been practicing PBS in the district). There appears to be an increase in staff support. The data throughout the PBS years exhibits a marked decrease in behavior referrals. This year the students on the year book committee requested to make PBS a part of the year book.

  OBSTACLES:

~Usually it is the finances. We have been supporting the plan through SAC, PTSA, and “Hat Days” (students purchase a ticket to wear a hat for the day).
