TEAMING:

Our team works very well because we have great cooperation and are working toward a common goal of increased student learning. We have all areas of our school represented on the PBS council (Gifted, ESE, All grade levels, guidance, support staff, and administration). We have an administrator on the PBS team that assists in promoting PBS, compiling and communicating the data, and facilitating the programs we have created.

We use data to target problem areas and times in the school so that we can determine specific solutions to specific problems. We use data to keep the staff informed on the progress through PBS and share our successes. We share information through email, meetings, bulletins, and newsletters at least monthly.

The overall strength of our team comes from representing all areas of the school, listening to all ideas presented, and a mixture of input from veteran and new teachers

IMPLEMENTATION:
Data based decision making- Rewarding positive behavior-
OUTCOMES:
There is a positive atmosphere created by PBS signs that can be seen in every area/room. There has been a decrease in negative behavior referrals. Parent and student feedback has been very positive. Teachers are looking for positive behaviors to reward instead of negative behaviors to punish- paradigm shift.

OBSTACLES:
Some teachers had the notion that they were going to be able to reprimand kids for exhibiting negative behavior in class. They thought that it would cause chaos to ignore all bad behavior and just praise the good kids. To dispel this notion that focusing on positive behaviors did not necessitate ignoring all negative behavior, we had to continually communicate this to the staff through modeling and advertisement. Once those teachers were able to see the success of the PBS program, there was more and more buy in.
