TEAMING:

The PBS team can be described as cohesive, motivated and committed. The team includes general education teachers, special education teachers, a gifted teacher, a counselor, and 2 administrators. The administrators facilitate the smooth operation of PBS activities. Both administrators also serve as mentors, along with the other PBS members, for our students targeted for group intervention. Both administrators are consistently accessible for handling PBS issues and brainstorming. Strong administrative support from our principal, and the assistant principal for curriculum, is also evident.

SWIS data reports are generated regularly, and form the basis for many PBS priorities. SWIS reports are reviewed at PBS team meetings. Mentor groups were established from this review. Students targeted for group intervention have daily progress reports. Progress is monitored by the PBS team. Data indicated dropping rates of student attendance and high rates of tardiness. A reward system for punctual attendance was established, with GATOR dollars presented to students arriving on time, and a reward shorts day for every 3 consecutive days of 95% attendance.

SWIS data is presented by team leaders at team meetings held every Monday and Thursday. SWIS data is reviewed twice monthly by the PBS team. SWIS data is shared monthly at team leader meetings. SWIS reports are presented at quarterly early release meetings.

The team has broad representation with strong administrative support. The dedication of team members is reflected in the participation during spring break at Targeted Group Intervention training this April in Tampa.

IMPLEMENTATION:

The PBS team is focused on the goals indicated on the Action Plan. The team ensured that the GATOR store would be in regular operation. The store was promoted during announcements. The team also focused on promoting faculty buy in and providing reinforcements for staff. Teachers were given gift bags with teachers supplies in the first semester. In the second semester, teachers were given PBS canvas tote bags inscribed with ”Believing and Achieving”.

OUTCOMES:
During the course of this year, we have seen a decrease in the number of referrals and in the number of outdoor suspensions. Attendance rates have increased. Last year, referrals were made most frequently for disrespect. Respect and Good Manners are two of our expectations. Referrals for disrespect have dropped significantly. Students are motivated to earn GATOR Dollars, and excitement is evident during store hours at lunch. Teachers appear generally pleased and enthusiastic about our PBS implementation.

OBSTACLES:
A new principal was assigned this year. The PBS District Coordinator and District Coach met with the principal, described the PBS program, and gained his support. Our PBS funds this year did not allow for the purchase of food items. This was a limitation, as our students responded well to the opportunities to purchase food items with GATOR dollars last year. We did obtain a donation of several cartons of candy canes after winter recess. These sold quickly. We would like to see if arrangements could be made with a District vendor of snack food. We had a delay in ordering items for the GATOR store, resulting in several weeks with no reinforcements available. This issue will be included in our Action Plan for next year.
