TEAMING:

Our overall ratings 4-5! The PBS Team meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Each area of the school is represented by a staff member. Our administrator is closely involved. She attends all meetings and is a vital part of the decision making process. The administrator also sees that plans and decisions are implemented in a timely manner.

We use our SWIS data to modify behavior plans and /or increase services for students who need more intensive behavioral supports. We also analyze environments - If certain locations or times show a spike in the number of behavioral incidents, we make changes to lower these incidents.

Daily electronic newsletter, Weekly Department Meetings, Monthly Faculty Meetings, Monthly Site Based ESE Team Meetings & Quarterly School Advisory Committee Meetings which includes parent involvement.

Everyone contributes to ideas and suggestions during our monthly meetings. Team members are positive and solution oriented.

IMPLEMENTATION:

We’re developing a PBS Handbook. We’ve produced a PBS DVD on School Wide Rules & Expectations. We have selected weekly Social Skills Instruction for school wide implementation. School wide expectations are posted throughout the school. Teachers develop Social Stories to individualize instruction on expectations. We have monthly school wide “Super Star Student” recognitions based on positive behaviors. Teachers also implement classroom and individual rewards for positive behaviors. We will have a PBS Handbook completed by the end of the school year.

OUTCOMES:
There has been an increase in data collection. Behavior plans are being implemented with more fidelity. Staff morale has increased.

OBSTACLES:
Implementing a General Education Initiative in a Special Day School has required a lot of time and effort to work with the system to make it ours. We have a broad range of age and ability levels (ages 5 – 22). We have defined school wide expectations setting specific for different age and ability levels. Teachers teach the skills for meeting the expectations in the different environments.
