TEAMING:

Beachland enjoys an experienced PBS team, a veteran faculty, and strong administrative support.

Data is entered weekly and analyzed monthly. It is the first item on the agenda during our meetings. For example,a whole class reward program was created as a result of SWIS data and faculty feedback.

The Team Leader analyzes and summarizes SWIS data before monthly faculty meetings. If no meeting is scheduled for that month, SWIS data graphs are saved as images and sent out to faculty via e-mail, with a summary of the information presented.

Administrative leadership and support of PBS has been essential. Also, the team leader has behavioral expertise and prior experience as a PBS Coach. All faculty are “bought-in” to the PBS initiative and our team seeks their feedback on a regular basis. Decisions are made based on data and faculty input.

IMPLEMENTATION:
Data based decision-making, faculty commitment; reward system, funding, and program evaluation are key strengths.
OUTCOMES:
Beachland earned its Model School status after the third year of implementing PBS. The overall climate of the school has grown increasingly positive each year. Faculty morale has improved as behavior challenges have become more manageable.

OBSTACLES:
This year, we experienced the effects of district re-zoning, where approximately 70 new students were moved from their home schools to Beachland. These students needed to understand our PBS program. Office discipline referral data has increased this year, partially due to this new influx of students. Throughout the year, efforts have been made to educate these students on PBS and provide the necessary support to ensure their success. In regard to rezoning, it is clear that we have to anticipate the needs of this new, and sometimes more transient, population.
