TEAMING:

What makes your team work so well?  Please discuss in detail (e.g., what is your administrator’s role on the team, how is staff represented, etc.)? We have scheduled monthly meetings every first Tuesday of the month. All grade levels are represented on our PBS team including special areas, ESE, guidance and administration. Our principal reinforces expectations with students and staff. Weekly on TV we discuss another expectation. Monthly we have a drawing for both students and teachers for prizes if they are “caught” following our schoolwide expectations.

How does your team use data to make decisions on campus? We examine the data monthly at our meetings and discuss possible areas of need. We share the information at faculty meetings and brainstorm possible solutions.

How do you share information with the rest of your faculty (e.g., emails, newsletters, meetings, etc.)?  How often do you share this information? We discuss the data at monthly faculty meetings. We use data to drive instruction and to drive our PBS to make improvements.

What do you see as the overall strengths of your team?  Please provide details. Communication is our strength. No one is afraid to speak up. Everyone participates during the discussions. We also share with our grade level teams and get feed back from the entire faculty. The we share and discuss the feedback at our committee meetings.

IMPLEMENTATION:

In what areas of PBS does your team excel (e.g., rewarding students/staff, teaching expectations, data-based decision-making, etc.)?  Please provide details below. We reward our students and staff well. We have monthly feather parties for children that have earned a set number of feathers for following expectations. We also have our chief treats every Friday for classes that have earned fifteen chief heads from special classes. Our staff and students are recognized and rewarded at monthly celebrations with gift certificates to local restaurants.

OUTCOMES:

Discuss the changes you have seen on campus since PBS implementation (e.g., data, climate, morale, etc.). We have seen a decrease in our referrals and incidents. Our students enjoy the attention they receive for doing the right thing. Fewer students are acting out to get attention. There has been a greater buy-in with the support of data to show what we are doing does work. Teachers are doing a better job praising the good students and participating in our PBS program.

OBSTACLES:

What are some obstacles that your team has had to overcome?  Please explain the process for overcoming these hurdles below. The upper grade(4th/5th) students are not as motivated by the feather parties as the younger grades. We are going to survey the students to see what they would like to have as rewards at the feather parties. Hopefully that will help motivate them to earn the feathers by following expectations.
