TEAMING:
What makes your team work so well?  Please discuss in detail (e.g., what is your administrator’s role on the team, how is staff represented, etc.)? Constant communication focused on the success of the entire group is what has made our implementation of the PBS program so successful.  The administrator serves as a team member and assists with reporting and analyzing SWIS data.  Currently, all lead teachers make up the PBS team.   Monthly team meetings are used as a time to analyze data, discuss situations, and generate suggestions.

How does your team use data to make decisions on campus? Monthly PBS data is shared at PBS team meetings as well as monthly staff meetings and is used to plan rewards, research intervention strategies, develop action plans, conference with parents, and identify professional development topics.    We also use our monthly SWIS data as a tool to heighten awareness as to the time of day, location, and type of behavior our students are demonstrating.

How do you share information with the rest of your faculty (e.g., emails, newsletters, meetings, etc.)?  How often do you share this information? Monthly staff meetings, emails as needed, monthly PBS reward list

What do you see as the overall strengths of your team?  Please provide details. Our team is diverse and brings a lot of teaching experience together with a behavioral management focus.   The PBS Team has served as the central planning headquarters for all of our PBS related activities and events.  This team then shares data, analyses, and ideas during monthly staff meetings.  One of the true perks that has surfaced as a result of our PBS team approach is that now we share the “challenging” behaviors and children.  We work together to generate solutions and help each other more readily.

IMPLEMENTATION:

In what areas of PBS does your team excel (e.g., rewarding students/staff, teaching expectations, data-based decision-making, etc.)?  Please provide details below. Our PBS program has done a wonderful job this year with our schoolwide monthly reward activities. We have also used our data to guide a lot of programmatic decisions we have made this year. Implementing our Targeted Social Skills groups this year has improved the way in which we assist the “behaviorally” needy children.

OUTCOMES:

Discuss the changes you have seen on campus since PBS implementation (e.g., data, climate, morale, etc.). I think the most marked change has been the fact that we all are now speaking the same language and using the same behavior management program which has improved our communication. Children are rewarded for being good.  The positive focus has shifted our thinking from negative punishment to praise!  All children inherently want to do a GOOD JOB! Teachers are more willing to help each other work through discipline situations, too.

OBSTACLES:

What are some obstacles that your team has had to overcome?  Please explain the process for overcoming these hurdles below. In the early childhood arena the staff turnover rate is very high.  Staff turnover causes the need for booster training sessions. Funding for special events and activities has also been an issue.  Our PBS funds have been supplemented with PTO funds.  We have also had to struggle to find staff to implement the secondary targeted groups and to find the time to effectively work on our tertiary interventions.
