TEAMING:

What makes your team work so well?  Please discuss in detail (e.g., what is your administrator’s role on the team, how is staff represented, etc.)? The principal and assistant principal attend all team meetings. They appear on the announcement each day and speak about an expectation report to students and staff things that are working and things that need to be worked on.  They visit classrooms daily and praise students for following PBS expectations. All staff members are represented on the team.  The team members attend meetings and expressed an interest in being on the team after the first year. Being on the team has created leadership experiences for some members. Meetings are scheduled before school starts and are on the school calendar so members of the team can plan in advance to attend.

How does your team use data to make decisions on campus? The team looks at the data and determines an area of need.  We then brainstorm ideas for an intervention and assign people to do it or create a plan for implantation.

How do you share information with the rest of your faculty (e.g., emails, newsletters, meetings, etc.)?  How often do you share this information?  PBS information is shared daily on the morning announcements. Other information is shared in Emails, flyers team meetings etc. The PBS expectations are printed in the student planner which each child receives the first day at the school. PBS expectations and procedures are printed in the staff handbook and every staff member receives a school handbook. A PBS handbook has been created for each staff member.  Staff member submit a copy of the classroom behavior plan so that the team can make sure it mirrors the Discipline Flow chart. Team members work with staff members who need help creating classroom and student behavior plans.

What do you see as the overall strengths of your team?  Please provide details. The team has a wide representation of people with varying views of what is happening around the school.  We learn a lot from each other and make great decisions about what needs to occur in the school.

IMPLEMENTATION:

In what areas of PBS does your team excel (e.g., rewarding students/staff, teaching expectations, data-based decision-making, etc.)?  Please provide details below. The team does quite well in the above areas. We now have identified for next year our goals and will look to implement a series of small group social skills interventions for students. After reviewing our end of the year data we see that to be our area of need. We have identified schoolwide needs in the past and now are ready to really look at the needs of the groups who tend to generate the larger # of referrals.

OUTCOMES:

Discuss the changes you have seen on campus since PBS implementation (e.g., data, climate, morale, etc.). The students and staff know and practice the expectations throughout the school. Example: The hallways used to generate a lot of referrals but now they are few and far between do to students and staff following the expectations. The same is true of the cafeteria.  Using the data to develop expectations has greatly improved the school climate and morale.

OBSTACLES:

What are some obstacles that your team has had to overcome?  Please explain the process for overcoming these hurdles below. Time and money. There is never enough time to plan and implement our wonderful ideas. Never enough money to supply rewards or purchase materials for all our PBS plans.  To  overcome these hurdles I get money from PTA, grants, donations and beg and borrow from any  one who will listen.
