TEAMING:
What makes your team work so well?  Please discuss in detail (e.g., what is your administrator’s role on the team, how is staff represented, etc.)?  The administrator on the team is our principal. She is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She attends every meeting and supports the process completely. Our other members represent all aspects of the school -  teachers, behavior techs, counselors, and administrators.  The PBS Plan is totally integrated into the management of the school. It drives the students transition  back to a comprehensive campus. Our staff is well trained in the principles of behavior analysis and understand why the system is designed as it is. The school-wide system is a reinforcement plan that shapes student behavior.

How does your team use data to make decisions on campus? Data from the school-wide point system is collected daily and posted for students to review.  Every morning in Homeroom our staff reviews the previous days point sheets and discusses with their students. Every Friday a graph is generated for each student that provides a visual of how they performed. Problem Behavior Reports (copy in PBS Plan) are written whenever a student has some type of behavioral incident.  This report gives us a more accurate picture of student behavior.  These are discussed at our weekly team meetings and are graphed at the end of each month and reviewed at our staff meeting. *Referral data is reviewed monthly as it is posted on the website and discussed at our PBS team meeting and then reviewed with staff at the weekly meeting. Data is collected whenever any student is removed from class. The behavior, what time, and duration of incident is recorded. This data is graphed monthly and shared with staff.

How do you share information with the rest of your faculty (e.g., emails, newsletters, meetings, etc.)?  How often do you share this information? We have weekly staff meetings that center around student data – what happened during the week, how are students progressing    through the system. These discussions are based on the analysis of the data collected for the week.  The types of data are listed above and the time frames for review are  also listed.

What do you see as the overall strengths of your team?  Please provide details. Our PBS Plan is the core of our school, not an add on program.  Our staff are well trained in the behavioral model and understand the principles that drive the strategies.  The principal is committed to the process and supports the team actively by sitting on the committee and leading the implementation of the plan. Our PBS team members are enthusiastic and creative with next to no resources. Every staff member is involved on some level with the PBS Plan.

 
IMPLEMENTATION:

In what areas of PBS does your team excel (e.g., rewarding students/staff, teaching expectations, data-based decision-making, etc.)?  Please provide details below. The areas we seem to do well in are utilizing the data we collect and making decisions about student behaviors based on that data. All of our staff are able to generate and interpret the graphs, as well as our students. Teaching expectations is another strong area for us. In homeroom every day we discuss individual behavioral progress and a particular social skill that was chosen based on the types of problem behavior our students engage in.  Every student participates in a social skills group each week where the topics are about expectations. The rewards for students are an intrinsic part of each day. There are privileges for each level that motivate students to move up through they system. The privileges are based on student reinforcer surveys and the more valued reinforcers are on the higher levels.


OUTCOMES:

Discuss the changes you have seen on campus since PBS implementation (e.g., data, climate, morale, etc.). Our school-wide PBS plan provides staff with a systematic, consistent way to teach and reinforce the behavioral expectations.  Staff now depend on the data and use it when they are talking to and about students. For our students, the system is an objective, well defined way to evaluate their own behavior, and know where they are and what they still need to accomplish.
The climate is positive and provides the needed structure for students to be successful.

 
OBSTACLES:

What are some obstacles that your team has had to overcome?  Please explain the process for overcoming these hurdles below. We are a short term school placement that is charged with providing interventions for both academic and social behaviors for students that have been expelled from a comprehensive campus. There is no PTO or other groups that are attached to the school that typically provide financial support through fund raising and school functions.  The PBS Core team has written grants and letters of request for support throughout the community. We have received $1,000 each year for the past 3 years from Wal-Mart and several board members have donated funds for many activities.
